Chemigram drawing with artist Andrey Piletsky
This one-day workshop introduces participants to the experimental practice of Figurative Chemigrams, a hybrid process located at the intersection of drawing and analogue photography.
Under the guidance of artist Andrey Piletsky, participants will draw a still-life composition setup in the studio using light-sensitive photographic paper as the surface and photo chemistry as the drawing medium. Working together in normal room light, you will explore the unique properties of mark-making on photopaper with brushes and chemicals.
Inspired by the figurative drawing approach of Kimon Nicolaides’ The Natural Way to Draw, this workshop emphasises gesture, contour, and mass over photographic realism. Participants will be encouraged to develop their own interpretation of the still life using a unique technique that is surprising and wild. There will be no right answers but lots of room for experimentation, learning from each other and developing new methods of working.
This workshop is suitable for those who are curious in learning how to draw, and for visual artists working with experimental photography and drawing.
No prior experience in experimental photography or drawing is required
