Porta Workshop with Storque Studios

Needing a table may be more simple than you think!

In this 2 day Porta Workshop, you will be making your own trestle table to take home with you.

The trestle table you will be making, is a newly established design, and part of a wider ‘Porta’ project from Storquestudios. The idea for this model, has stemmed from a metal component design that accommodates prefabricated waste elements such as ply-wood. These prefabricated elements slot into the metal structure, to create a smooth and simple assemblaging of the trestle.

Through making and working with Storquestudios, you will start to understand the concept and methodology behind furniture making. Through acquiring simple skills, you can see how it’s made and you can be a part of the process.

This Workshop is stimulated by Enzo Mari’s concept of sharing design, and progressively thinking in how skills can influence understanding.

*In Latin, ‘porta’ means “gate”, “entrance”, or “door”.
We will be harnessing the idea of ‘porta’, by accomodating panel doors in the completion of the design. Door panels will be provided, and you will learn how to restore and re-purpose them as table tops.
